Kirk Strawn. M.D., President & Medical Director
Kirk Strawn, M.D., is the founder, President, and Medical Director of PopHealthMan. Kirk is a board certified family physician and earned his medical degree at the University of Iowa. Prior to starting PopHealthMan and Secure Document Imaging, he was the director of Population Health Management at a large multispecialty medical group practice. There he spent much of his career developing programs for high risk patients. His areas of interests include clinical information systems, high-risk population management systems and end of life care.
Bob Carroll, Executive Vice President
Bob Carroll joined the PopHealthMan team in July, 2008 as the Executive Vice President. Mr. Carroll’s 25+ years of leadership experience in the healthcare industry includes finance and operations management, Medicare and Medicaid, medical group management, information systems, project management, and business development. In his current role, he has overall responsibility for the success of PopHealthMan and its sister organization Secure Document Imaging.
Prior to joining PopHealthMan, Bob served as the Chief Operating Officer for a large multi-specialty medical group practice (160+ physicians, 1,200 employees) that provided services to approximately 150,000 patients including 34,000 Medicare Advantage members. He was responsible for the overall performance of the group including quality of care, service levels, and financial results. In addition, Bob led the process of converting the group from hard copy medical records to more efficient electronic health records.
Bob earned his Master of Health Services degree from Arizona State University and his Bachelor of Science in General Biology from the University of Arizona.
Deb Hecker, Chief Executive Officer
Deb Hecker is the Chief Executive Officer of PopHealthMan. Deb joined the organization in June of 2008, and now provides her significant knowledge in optimizing Medicare Advantage Revenue to our clients. In her previous role as CFO of a large medical group in Arizona, Deb was responsible for all things financial, with particular emphasis on Medicare Advantage risk adjustment revenue and related processes. Her experience includes the implementation of numerous initiatives to capture appropriate diagnosis codes both retrospectively and prospectively, in addition to the development of various metrics and measurement tools for tracking and reporting results.
Deb has been working with Medicare and Medicaid products for over 12 years. She is a CPA, and received an MBA from Arizona State University and a BA in Accounting from Michigan State.
Brian Geroux, Vice President of Business Development & Sales
Brian Geroux Joined PopHealthMan in January of 2010 and brings more than 26 years of experience in the Healthcare industry.
Prior to joining PopHealthMan, Brian held a variety of Sales and Sales leadership roles in the Health Insurance industry working primarily with large regional and national account segments. He also led market development activities to identify and expand new and existing distribution channels. Most recently, Brian served as Regional Vice President of Sales and distribution for a large multi-line insurance carrier in the western United States where he was responsible for new sales growth and retention of a large client base consisting of nearly one million members throughout the region.
Brian earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration, from Northern Arizona University and currently resides with his family in Tempe, AZ.
Royce Brownfield, Senior Director of Product Development and Client Analytics
Royce Brownfield has been working in healthcare analytics over the last 20 years and has been deeply involved in CMS Risk Adjustment since 2002. Prior to starting PopHealthMan with Dr. Strawn, Royce was an integral member of a multi-disciplinary task force that increased the Risk Adjustment Factor and revenue of an Arizona MAPD plan by 20% over three years. In doing so, he investigated and discovered several sources of lost diagnosis data, thereby improving the documentation of that plan’s illness burden.
Since joining PopHealthMan, Royce has used his extensive expertise to design the vital tools used to manage the Risk Adjustment process for our clients. He consults directly with our clients and combines a unique blend of available tools and services to optimize their revenue to the fullest potential.
Royce has an MBA from the University of Texas, and he and his family have lived in the Phoenix area for 20 years.
Phil Schroeder, Senior Director of Information Technology
Phil Schroeder is the Senior Director of Information Technology for PopHealthMan, bringing 39 years of systems development experience in a variety of businesses, including transportation, manufacturing and healthcare. He has been developing, implementing, and maintaining relational database, client server applications for over 24 years, and has developed a wide array of business applications in inventory control, bill of materials, and forecasting.
Prior to joining PopHealthMan in 2006, Phil spent the previous nine years consulting exclusively for a large health plan in the MAPD division. He has developed systems that incorporate CMS data feeds such as MMR, TRR, MOR, and BILL for risk adjustment, hospice payments, eligibility, pharmacy, and quality control.
Phil has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois and he and his wife live in the Phoenix area.
Nicole Svoboda, Director of Client Services
Nicole is the Director of Client Services, and is responsible for customer and data support to all of PopHealthMan’s clientele. She also provides consulting services with an emphasis on enrollment, marketing, compliance, pharmacy data encounters (PDE), and risk adjustment. Nicole has 14 years of health plan operations experience with commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid plans, and holds a degree in Health Care Management.
Prior to joining PopHealthMan, Nicole was the Enrollment Operations Manager for two Medicare Advantage Special Needs plans located in Maryland and Delaware.
Nicole resides in Mesa, Arizona, where she and her husband are busy raising their four young children.
Matt Heninger, Director of Client & Corporate Reporting and Analysis
Matt joined the organization in January of 2009 and is the Director of Client & Corporate Reporting and Analysis at PopHealthMan. He brings with him 22 years of analytical and reporting expertise, along with a host of medical expense, revenue and utilization analytical design tool skills. Matt has designed multiple reporting products and techniques to measure productivity, improve utilization, maximize revenues and track quality. Previous to PopHealthMan, Matt spent 15 years in various financial management roles with three of the largest managed care companies in Arizona. He also spent 6 years as the Chief Financial Officer of a $100M physician and hospital owned Management Company in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Matt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Japanese from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree, with emphasis in Finance, from Brigham Young University. Having lived in Tokyo, Japan for two years, Matt also speaks fluent Japanese. He and his family have lived in the Phoenix area for 22 years.
Paul Sparrow, Director of Database Management
Paul is the Director of Database Management and a lead programmer at PopHealthMan. He brings 17 years of technical sophistication with relational databases and application development that includes database design, structured query language, data mining, reporting, and business analysis. Having worked for a major managed care company and a large hospital-based healthcare system, Paul has extensive experience with both the insurance and provider sides of healthcare. Academically, Paul holds a Bachelors of Engineering from the Cooper Union College in New York City and Master’s degrees in Business and Healthcare Administration from Hofstra University on Long Island, NY.
Kerrey Hunt, Project Manager
Kerrey Hunt is the Project Manager for claim recovery services at PopHealthMan. She brings 17 years of health care experience; with the last eight years dedicated to Medicare Advantage claim operations. Kerrey joined the organization in January 2009 and now provides valuable insight for compliance and claim recovery opportunities to our clients; initially focusing on hospice overpayments. Prior to her role at PopHealthMan, Kerrey was the Claim Operations Manager for an Arizona Medicare Advantage health plan. Tasked with improving the total claim experience, Kerrey’s role promoted and guaranteed claim quality, compliance, vendor and matrix partner efficiencies, accurate programming, and provider appeal resolution.
Since joining PopHealthMan, Kerrey has applied her analytical expertise to refine technical algorithms and unlock claim recovery opportunities totaling more than 2.5M for hospice enrollees alone. Through the identification and interpretation of Medicare Advantage rules, Kerrey seeks to improve our client’s financial outlook. Her claim recovery approach includes, but is not limited to, identification of overpayments, payment reconciliation, provider notification, and continuous health plan interaction.
Kerrey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fresno and is dually licensed for life and health insurance in Arizona.
